189 Million cases, 4 million deaths globally. 34 Million cases, 600k deaths in the US.
The United States looks to be flattening out around 50% fully vaccinated. Delta variant is hammering the unvaccinated folks. Delta+ is emerging in other countries now.
I’ve had one small lingering side effect from the Pfizer vaccine. My left arm (where I got the injection) will randomly tingle at times and feels like a fresh jab. It’s weird. Other than that I feel good.
We are fully open here in Washington State and it has been interesting. We spent a week at the beach and mask use was a mixed bag. I am still not comfortable in large crowds right now because I have no idea who is vaccinated or not, plus my son is not vaccinated so we have to be careful.
Things are slowly feeling “normal” again.
160 million positive cases globally, 3.3 million dead. US 32.8 million infected, 584,000 dead.
Vaccine rollout across the US has been swift and massive in scale. The problem? A large group of citizens refuse to get the vaccines now. We are going to be stuck in an endless cycle of this until people do what is needed to get rid of COVID.
I have a huge phobia when it comes to needles and finally scheduled my first jab. The experience was quick and I am on day 2 now, feeling pretty crappy.
- 10-15 minutes after the Pfizer shot, I felt a tingling in my jaw and lips. Lasted 30 seconds and was gone.
- Second day – Arm is sore. Slight fever, congested and cannot smell/taste anything.
- Super tired.
I am taking it slow and drinking a lot of water. Will see how I feel the next few days and status here.
Today we are at 111 Million cases globally, with 2.4 million deaths.
The United States passed a grim milestone today of 500,00 deaths due to COVID.
A lot has happened since my last post on 12/30. Trump lost the election and claimed multiple times it was rigged. He pushed this narrative to a boiling point on January 6th where his supporters stormed the US Capitol. People died.
Joe Biden has been sworn in as President.
We are currently in a push to vaccinate as many people as possible and cases are starting to drop. While good news, the concern is that people will assume the vaccines have wiped this out and relax a bit.
My son will return to in class school on April 1st and we are excited and nervous. He feels it would be disruptive to return in person on a modified schedule for the remaining two months of the school year. I am worried teachers are not a priority when it comes to immunizations and hope that all of the teachers in our district remain safe.
On a personal note I have been in a bit of a funk. February is always tough for me. It is the time of year that my grandmother passed away and no matter how prepared for this I am, it still hurts and puts me in a mood. I miss her terribly and always will.
I also have many positives happening and I need to focus on that. My career has taken off, I am in a great relationship and finally feel supported for the first time in my life, and I enjoy watching my son grow up.
I need to focus on these things.
19.5 million cases in the US. 338k dead. 3000 per day are dying.
Globally 1.7 dead.
Vaccinations have started and in the United States things are a mess. People are ‘jumping the line’ to get ahead of front line workers.
In Los Angeles the hospitals are turning away ambulances because they have no capacity due to COVID cases. Locally medical workers are concerned that the hospitals here are close to capacity.
The virus is mutating. The new and improved version spreads even faster now.
The mask/science vs open the businesses and schools debate rages on. People assault each other over this.
I am concerned we still don’t know enough about the long term effects of this virus and feel the vaccines were rushed. I am by no means an anti-vaxx person, I just want to see some long term study before getting jabbed myself.
President Trump is only concerned with conspiracy about losing the election right now. There was a massive bombing in Nashville on Christmas morning and he has not mentioned this at all.
The world is a mess.
Since June 11th, we have jumped from 7 million global cases to over 23 million.
The United States jumped from 2 Million cases to 6 Million. From 112k dead to just under 200k.
Globally areas that had halted the spread are now getting new hot spot areas of infection.
Sweden, who attempted herd immunity is now requiring masks for everyone and they have the highest death rate per infection. They tried.
The US handling of this is still a mixed bag and now there is a push for herd immunity here as well. The statistics have been a mess, with the CDC data being pushed into a new system. Every day there is drama and confusion, which is what they want.
Locally I was able to get a free test quickly. Fill paperwork, drive up, get swab and leave. Took three days to get results and we were pleased with that process.
Elections are coming up in November and the US is a mess. Turmoil everywhere.
BLM protests continue and there are nightly issues between ‘Patriots’ and BLM/Protest folks. A white 17 year old with an assault style rife crossed state lines, to defend property he didn’t own. He was chased, killed someone. Ran from the scene right past the police as people pointed him out as having shot someone dead. He was chased and attacked, shot and killed another person and wounded one more. He is being hailed as a hero on the right and a murderer on the left.
He was not old enough to carry that weapon. He crossed state lines with that weapon. He defended property that was not his. He is responsible for all of those things and being charged with murder.
The President is defending him.
I’m terrified at what November brings. No matter who we elect there will be turmoil and the prospect of more violence and I am very afraid.
